FOLLOWING ORANGES IN OLDENBURG
After
renting a bicycle we went to get oranges at the local distributor, to
trace the last bit that the fruit travels in Oldenburg. The animation
below gives an impression of the last bit to the Edith Russ Haus.
The
last journey by bike was 6 kilometers. The oranges at this time of year
comes from South Africa. This means that they have been underway at
least one month by boat. This is also why it is practically impossible
to have organic oranges at this time of year as most of them would rot
if they were not treated chemically.
The distributor mapped the
way of oranges on one of the
wrappers
At other times oranges in Olden-
burg are imported from mainly
Spain, Morocco or California.
